LOCOMOTION 03:25
Locomotion through the hills Raise our flag, we tear and tear Through the earth, forge and flame Taste our blood and call our name I am shadow, rock and stain Looming vision to obey Send your hungry tombs away We will not release to you Away, Away I forgive your Green-eyed lusting Your rumbling belly Your swords for thrusting Your hands for stealing Your heart for hushing Your ink for lying While we are dying While you are dying
2.
From the outside You are bigger Fallen Fortress Full of Rain Concrete Vision Let me light you I will enter Call my name I am neither for or from you I am either for or from you
3.
BEARING DOWN 04:54
It came from on the ships bearing, bearing down Black death upon their lips bearing, bearing down People huddled, prayers for dawn bearing, bearing down Press their white eyes up to god bearing, bearing down This is where my face first felt light I brought my air to her When I cried White cotton flush with red bearing, bearing down Sweet oil upon my head bearing, bearing down My mother’s seafoam eyes I sailed to them When I died
4.
O MICHAEL 02:44
Grey Field Bathed in holy light Oh what I see Two wings Two eyes holding me in flight golden honey Oh Michael Oh Michael ( ) Give your body Two arms Sever the Tethers Heed the calling Lit sky Fall without warning Wait, wait, weight, weight, wait, wait, weight, weight Who Who Who Who do you think Who do you think Think you are?
5.
Wound unmoving orbit A spool or nest, a spool or nest, a spool or nest, spool or Catch the taste of metal Bones they snap, bones they snap, bones they snap to Armor built to weather The fools and traps, the fools and traps, the fools and traps Light just like a feather I rise and flap, rise and flap Wound

7.
A FORMING 02:03
Now a forming Now a holding Now a dense, warm swish like a breath Sweet and brimming Soft shell swimming Roam in circles through and away
8.
SHINE 04:29
And for you I’d be the bitter ore For you I’d be the flame Just hot enough to shine through Metal bars upon the window Metal locks and metal chains Hold my head, you are my captor Prod the embers Sweet like honey Give me signs Of your intentions Fear I am too strong To let it
9.
HANGING HEAD 03:48
10.
WAIL 03:23
No light Ever touched my face No lines of fortune to erase No call Of figure form or trace No movement for or from the race A sound Like an opening I am forgetting everything

about

WREST is a collision; a dueling violent negotiation of form, theme, and texture. Starting in May of 2010, WREST was a performance project, a locus for intermedia exploration and is now a visual album of music and video. Over the last two years composer and intermedia artist, Jules Gimbrone, has cultivated a place for collaboration and cross-medium exchange with filmmakers, dancers, and artists. Centering around Gimbrone's 7-piece electroacoustic ensemble, WREST depicts moments of imperative change housed within the queer body. Gimbrone’s ensemble creates a symphonic landscape through a dramatic mash of polyrhythm, grand melodic gestures, abrasive sound textures, and primordial vocalizations to be explored through a variety of vantages.

about

JULES GIMBRONE New York, New York

Jules approaches sound and composition through the lens of architectural, sculptural and choreographic interplay. Jules attempts to erect system and structures, which are conceptually sound but simultaneously house their inevitable demise and fallibility, specifically within the multiple failures and queerings of the performative body. ... more
